Hawkhurst Fishery

I have fished at this complex for a while now it is a 4 lake complex with good facilities and parking, There are 3 main lakes and a heavily stocked match lake to chose from, there is a small supply of bait on site when I say small I mean that as in a small choice,  but feed pellets are available in various sizes are available from 1-25 kg bags. There is an onsite sit down cafι which serves up some lovely grub and a clean well maintained toilet.

Match Lake

As you enter the fishery you will find this lake on your left which is a rectangular shaped lake which is about an acre in size which contains approx 20 pegs which are  well positioned and very stable,

This lake has and average depth of between 5-6 feet up to about 8ft in the middle and about 2 feet in the margins and slightly less the closer you get towards the bank side hoardings, it is heavily stocked with mirror and common carp and a few ghosties they run from 1lb – 7lb the average being about 2lb, it is possible to catch in excess of 200lb of carp on the right day using the correct method, many weights of this size have been recorded I personally have recorded two 200lb match weights which did put a rather large smile on my face both times, there are two main ways to really bag up on this lake and they are 1) fishing shallow on the pole and draw the fish to within a few feet from the bank using pellet on the hook and feeding micros/slop and tapping the water and the other paste down the edge and in front of you this is also a guaranteed way of bagging up. This lake has oxygen pumps built in so this fish are very fit and healthy and for there size they fight all the way to the net.

The lake is a day ticket venue but due to it being a match lake it is advisable to check on weekends that it is not pre-booked for a match.

The other good news is this venue has a great supply of feed pellets and corn etc which can be purchased in bulk from the bailiff which is always handy as I have personally used in excess of 4-6 pints of pellet when the carp are having it.

  Species -    Mirror Carp - 7lb   /    Common Carp - 7lb   /    Roach – 1lb 12oz

  Fees – 1 Rod/Pole   £10.00 Adult  /   £7.50 Junior & OAP & Disabled

Main Lake

The Main Lake is directly behind the match lake and is the second lake you will see on entering the complex and is the largest of all the 4 lakes it is 4 acres in size.

The lake is well surrounded by tall trees and bushes thus help protect the angler from the elements and also encouraging the fish to move around all the lakes new to the cover which is made by the bushes and the heavy reed lined bank sides. The swims are large and open enabling the easy errection of 1 of 2 bivies in most swims and still allow plenty of room for all that tackle that you big carp hunters carry.

The average depth of the lake is about 5 ft and a maximum of 6 feet, there are about 12 swims on this lake so you’re not casting over anybody else and competing heavily for the fish with other anglers.

 Species:   Mirror Carp – 30lb +     /     Grass Carp – 20lb +   /  Catfish – 65lb+   /   Common  Carp -35lb +   /  Tench – 8lb +

And some small Rudd and roach are also available.

Dove Lake

This is the third lake and is about an acre and a half in size and is square in shape, again this lake is well surrounding by trees and bushes and   has well lined banks of reeds and shrubs. The swims are very similar to those found on the main lake.

The lake depth is an average 6 ft and contains 6 swims so again it can’t get over fished.

 Species:    Mirror Carp – 36lb+     /     Common Carp – 36lb+    /   Tench – 9lb+   /   Grass Carp – 22lb+   /   Perch –3lb+      /

Junior Lakes

These are a collection of 3 small rectangular lakes which are ideal for the younger angler due to there size as they don’t have to do a lot of searching to get bites. All 3 lakes total about just over a Ό of an acre in size and they are all about 6ft max depth. There are 10 swims in total over the 3 lakes and the biggest the carp go is about 10lb with a few small tench and silver fish thrown in for good measure.

Species : Carp and small silver fish and small Tench

Fees: 1 Rod/Pole   £7.50 Adult  /  £5.00 Junior & OAP & Disabled

Specimen Lake

This Lake is where the big un’s hide. This lake is about 3 and ½ acres in size and is packed with reed and lily pads and a few snags just begging to be fished to find those lumps that are hiding there. The lake itself is the furthest away and is more secluded from the rest of the complex giving you peace and quite which will only be disturbed by your buzzer going off, the lakes depth rages from a few feet at the edges upto about 18 ft  in the middle. The bad news for the day ticket angler is it is a Members only lake so you will have to part with some cash if you want to fish this brilliant lake.
