This event was organized by Danny Fairbrass and his company Korda
developments who are one of the leading innovative carp fishing tackle
company’s in the UK, the event was run over 2 days Saturday 30th
of June and Sunday the 31st.
Being a club match angler I was a bit dubious about going to this event as
it has always been one for the specimen carp boy’s , after speaking to my
brother and finding out Steve Ringer would be attending I thought well ok. I
decided to go on the Sunday so me and my brother made our way to Thorpe Lea
in Surrey , on arrival we where greeted by 2 fairly decent sized mobile
grandstands and an event marquee and a couple of live demo areas. We went to
the marquee to have a look around at some of the products the tackle
company’s where displaying, Bait tech was there showing it’s new ground bait
ranges (Special g and voodoo mixes) and there particle and seed ranges
including there new chili hemp which I think will go down well with both the
match and specimen angler a like, especially as all of the stock Bait tech
brought with them was nearly all gone in the first few hours including there
two new ground baits and their halibut pellet range that they brought to the
show. Shimano and Diawa where there showing there latest specimen rods and
reels and luggage, I especially liked Diawa’s range topping reels which
looked absolutely stunning and so light even the larger big pit reels.
Korda’s stand as all ways was impressive with several Big televisions
displaying footage from there brilliant fishing DVD range, they also had
many of there end tackle bits and bobs and there method feeder and lead
ranges on the stand as well, the package deals they where doing on the day
where a bargain with many people saving quite a bit of money with the added
plus of instruction on how to use them by Danny himself and other top carp
anglers. Kent Particles where also there displaying there own individual
bait range and some of Main line’s products as well, Alien baits where there
also and they displayed there range of artificial baits including sinking
and floating fake corn in various colors including fluorescent glow in the
dark range, I purchased a pack of the fake sinking corn as I read so many
articles about fish caught on fake corn so I thought I would give it a go,
Chub where there showing all there latest luggage and bivvys and more, there
where also various other manufacturers on site as well showing there
products on the day.
Next we went to one of the grandstands and where we watched a live demo
with Steve Ringer and Wendy Lythgoe on the bagging waggler and method
feeder, Steve was asked questions on his rigs and baits and more by Wendy in
true interview style, he explained in- depth about the method and the
bagging waggler including how to mix the 2 very different ground bait mixes
and explained both methods and the rig components themselves, and he went
onto explain when and where to use these methods and the hook baits he uses,
Steve then gave live demonstrations on both methods which I thought was
superb its one thing listening to some one but to see them in action showing
the rigs work is simply excellent I just wish this was done more at other
shows, Steve caught several carp on both rigs and every fish was above 10lb
so he showed that what he does really does work. We then watched another
live demo with Jan Porter about the zig rig and his version of the bagging
wager which he calls the spoddler, this works just like the bagging waggler
but replaces the waggler with a smaller modified spod and on seeing it in
use it works just as well with Jan landing a pristine 20lb carp, lovely.
We then went to watch a couple of the other live displays, we watched a
couple of people in the throwing stick championship which I was very
impressed how far a boilie could be launched, believe me they fly, we also
watched the spodding exercises this was interesting I just couldn’t believe
how far a heavy object could be casted and without it cracking the main line
off, who I watched several times amazed me how far he was launching his spod
it was well over 100 meters away incredible. We then watched a couple of
demos by Terry Hearn and Danny Fair brass about accuracy when fishing and
how important it is and why and Terry’s chod rig was mentioned and several
other rigs and baiting plans and much more.
Me and my brother walked around some more and had a chat with a few of the
top anglers like Keith Arthur - Jan Porter – Frank Warwick, which was good I
came away with a few tips and tricks which is always a bonus.
Overall I thought it was a very well organized show with good products and
information and being able to chat with and see the top anglers fishing was
a brilliant plus, I just feel that if they can attract a few more of the
match anglers and companies this show will go from strength to strength.
