I
fished
at
this complex for
the first time this weekend, I
thought I would give it a go as its fairly close to my home, so I grabbed my
gear and off I went, arrived at about 12.00 and headed for the match lake
which is the largest of all the lakes at about 1.5 acres and houses about 30
pegs or so and a maximum depth of around 6 foot, it has well spaced out pegs
(wooden platforms out in the water) and most pegs have marginal growth and
several swims have a chuck to the island which is placed at the top end of
the lake, the margins are about 6 inches deep at the bank but quickly
shelves off to the max depth, the fish come right up under your feet even
where there is no cover I caught off the end o my platform including a nice
golden Tinca that thought it was a flying fish.
Before I started to fish I had a
chat with the owners who gave me a few pointers and had a walk round the
complex there are 3 lakes here, a small mixed lake with silver fish and
small carp, the specimen lake which is about an acre and has carp up
to 25lb and cats up to both species I am told are packing weight on quick.
The next lake is the one I chose
to fish which is the match lake this contains carp up to 18lb, Bream 4lbs,
Tench 3lbs, F1's 2lb, Chub, Skimmers, Roach 1lb, I set up to methods the
method feeder to the island and the pole down the edge, I started on the
feeder and had only two fish in about 2 hours one small ghostie and a mirror
about 10lbs, considering the damp and windy conditions I wasn't surprised so
I switched to the pole down the edge and had about 30lb of small carp and a
bream and so roach in a couple of hours which I was well chuffed with.
So all in all I will be returning
to Cackle hill as it is a well presented new fishery which is still maturing
and it has plenty of fish but not stupid amounts that the fish are climbing
up your pole you still have to work at it to get them going .

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Match Lake
As
you enter the fishery you will find this lake
at the very back of the complex
it is a kidney shape with a island ate the top end of the water and contains
30+ well spaced pegs offering a varity of species including carp into double
figures.
This
lake has and average depth of between 5-6 feet
and good depths in the margins
this is where you can catch a lot of fish if you can get them feeding, even
right under your feet. The carp average between 1- 7lb but there are lots of
doubles to be had, there is also a nice head of bream which go to 4lbs and
Golden and green Tench which run to 4lbs as well and there are also lots of
roach up to 1lb mark.
I would say best methods are as
follows if you choose or draw and island peg feeder just off the island and
pole down the edge, and all other pegs down the edge and up in the water in
front of you or on the deck, all baits seem to work which is good.
The
lake is a day ticket venue but due to it being a match lake it is advisable
to check on weekends that it is not pre-booked for a match.
